Seminar on "Bangladesh Poverty Trends 2010/11 – 2016/17" by Dr. Ruth Hill, Senior Economist, World Bank held.

Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) organized a seminar titled “Bangladesh Poverty Trends 2010/11 – 2016/17" by Dr. Ruth Hill, Senior Economist, World Bank on 22nd January, 2018, Monday at 3 pm at BIDS Seminar Room. The presentation made by Dr. Hill, reflected preliminary analysis of the recently released HIES data from BBS. The initial findings suggest that though Bangladesh has made remarkable progress in poverty reduction, further progress is needed as almost 1 in 4 people still live in poverty today. Economic growth has encouraged welfare gains, but increased economic growth in recent years has delivered less poverty reduction. New insights were discussed covering both spatial poverty, the growth-poverty relationship, and sources of growth, inequality and poverty reduction.

The seminar was attended by BIDS researchers and selected academics. Dr. K.A.S Murshid, DG, BIDS chaired the seminar.
