Funding Agency: Asian Development Bank (ADB)

Project Objective:

The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) implemented 280 small scale water resources management subprojects during its first phase (1995-2000). Another 300 subprojects are currently under implementation during its second phase (2002-2009). The purpose of the subprojects is to improve water management, flood management, drainage improvement, water conservation and command area development, benefiting a net area of up to 1,000 ha with a view to increasing production in agriculture and fishery resources, generating more income and employment, thereby contributing to overall reduction in poverty. The study has two components: one involves a benchmark study of 30 subprojects of the second phase, to be carried out before their implementation. The second component involves carrying out evaluation for 10 subprojects of SSWRDSP-1, for which a baseline study was carried out back in 2002.

Component - I: The purpose of the Benefit Monitoring and Evaluation (BME) Study of SSWRDSP-I1 subprojects, covering 30 subprojects in various locations is to generate benchmark data concerning water management, flood management, drainage improvement, water conservation, command area development and socio-economic aspects, carried out before the implementation of the subprojects. Such benchmark data will be used in impact assessment study at some later stage.

Component - II: The purpose of the Impact Evaluation Study is to examine the performance of the SSWRDSP-I subprojects, in respect to water management, flood management, drainage improvement, water conservation and issues related to socio-economic development, carried out through covering 10 subprojects, for which a baseline study was already carried out by LGED back in 2002

Project Output:

30 Benchmark Reports (30 Individual Subprojects)

1 Synthesis Report (combining 30 Subprojects)

1 Impact Evaluation (Covering 10 Subprojects)
